"The 1Malaysia Human Genome Variation Consortium represents the Malaysian node of HVP which comprises of 52 researchers from 11 Malaysian universities and institutes. The launching of the Malaysian node of the Human Variome Project was held on Oct 9th, 2010 at the Medical Faculty of Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang. The event was officiated by Dr. Vilasini A/P Pillai N.V. who represented Professor Emeritus Dato’ Zakri Abdul Hamid, the Science Advisor to the Prime minister of Malaysia... "

What is 1Mhgvc?
Genomics is the study of the genome of an individual. Genome is the entirety of a person's hereditary information encoded in the DNA. The field of genomics includes research into and identification of the entire DNA sequence variation of the individual and fine-scale genetic mapping efforts.
The various ethnic groups in Malaysia show different patterns of historical migrations and speak languages which belong to the branches of the language tree. However, cultures in Malaysia have crossed the communities of ethnicity since from the very beginning of her history. Hence, the proposed genome wide mapping of these ethnic groups will provide the genetic map of the country's migration history and uncover the extent of genetic similarity among the various ethnic populations.
The Objective Of 1Mhgvc
To create the human genome variation map of the major ethnic groups in Malaysia and to study its implications on genome wide disease association studies(GWAS), pharmacogenomics, nutrigenomics, toxicogenomics, archeogenomics, forensics, the country's migration history ethical, and legal and social issues (ELSI).
